Are You Walking the Talk? Or just Talking?

In other words, are you leading by example? My father always use to say "don't do as I do, DO as I say". I, personally, do not hold to this philosophy. Whether you are a parent, a teacher, an office manager or a business owner, your actions must speak louder than your words. Mac Anderson, publisher of the "Simple Truths" newsletter, recently wrote ". . ,the people at the top have to show it! Because words without deeds mean nothing!"

As a parent, do you teach your children not to lie then ask them to tell the person on the phone you are not home? What message does that really send?
As a department head, do you tell everyone they must work overtime while you take Wednesday afternoon off to play golf? Would that inspire action?
As a business owner, do you promote customer service yet not take the time to answer inquiries? Would that instill loyalty?
As an online entrepreneur, do you tell your referrals to listen to you, but you can't be bothered with answering their questions? Would that create motivation?

There is a story going around about Dave Neeleman, the owner of JetBlue Airlines. Once a month he would fly his own airline introducing himself to every passenger on board. He could be seen taking notes, handing out business cards and answering questions. At the end of each flight, he ALONG with the other JetBlue employees would pick up trash and clean up the plane. Now I do not know this man personally, nor do I know if this is true or not; but if this story has even a ring of truth to it -could there be any doubt, Dave Neeleman's actions spoke louder than any words?

Natural leaders earn a respect as a result of what they do,
not what they say or who they are.

Think about that statement for a minute. Were those that influenced you the most in your life "doers" or "preachers"? Did these individuals empower you to change for the better?

Remember, your every deed or action will influence someone positively or negatively, leave them with a positive impression.
